Paid Leave Program in MN – Milestones Approaching

The responsibilities of employers regarding the Paid Leave Program in Minnesota are approaching. These include:

  • Informing new hires and employees about the program
  • Providing leave to employees for eligible absences
  • Remitting and withholding employee contributions
  • Paying employer contributions

The deadline for issuing a notice to each employee is December 1, 2025. A new hire must receive the notice within 30 days from the beginning date of employment. The notice must include the following information:

  • An overview of the family and medical leave benefits available
  • Premium deductions made by the employer
  • Premium obligations and amounts
  • Employer’s name and mailing address
  • Directions on filing a claim for benefits
  • The employer’s State Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED)
  • The phone number, mailing address, and email address for contacting DEED
  • Any other required information

Contributions may be deducted beginning on January 1, 2026. The first batch is due to the state by April 30, 2026.
